Abstract
Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a significant sub-sector in Kenyan economy just as other upcoming countries considering it engages around 85% of the Kenyan man power (roughly 7.5million Kenyans currently hired). Constitutional framework on Small and Mediums Enterprise provide a window of opportunities by which SMEs evolve to realize devolution goals. The influence of decentralization on SMEs performance relies on the composition of the regulatory & organizational framework inclined to lift SMEs in the economy. Inadequate access to credit was a big shortfall deterring growth of SMEs industry. Issues restricting SMEs access to financial services comprise of valuable security together with inappropriate legal and regulatory set ups that do not acknowledge innovative strategies to lending for SMEs. The research sought to demonstrate how Microfinance Services affected Financial Performance of SMEs in Kisumu Central Sub-County, Kenya. The study objective was to find out how Microfinance services such as access to credit, savings, insurance & financial skills training
services had influenced performance of SMEs within Kisumu Central Sub-county. The study was anchored on Pecking Order theory and Financial Inclusion theory. The research used a
Descriptive cross sectional Survey Research Design. The research also used Stratified random sampling method and Yamane model to come up with a sample size of 85 SMEs in Kisumu Central Sub-County. Data was collected via self-administered structured questionnaires delivered to the targeted populace. 62 Respondents successfully returned the Questionnaires. The collected Data was analyzed using Descriptive Statistics, Correlation & Multiple Regression.
