Abstract

The study’s objective was to evaluate the effect of Islamic micro finance on financial performance. The descriptive survey design was employed for the research. Secondary data containing detailed information on Islamic finance was retrieved from statements of Islamic banks for a ten year time span that is, 2009-2018. The SPSS computer software analysis tool was employed for data analysis to generate both inferential and descriptive statistics which were presented using percentages,
tables, mean and standard deviation. The model’s overall significance was accessed using F test while the effect of each coefficient was test by performing T tests. To explore this, a comparative analysis of the transitions in financial performance over the study time frame. The study found a weak positive correlation between Islamic finance and financial performance. To evaluate the association between Islamic finance and financial performance, the regression model was applied.
The study found that adoption of Islamic finance enhances financial performance. The independent variables examined explain a substantial 21.55% of financial performance while other factors not considered for the study cater for the other remaining 74.5%. The study recommends the advancement of Kenyan Islamic banking and boost the Kenyan economy, the legislative structure should be implemented to enhance the industry’s regulations. This implies that both the Banking Act and the Central Bank Act need be revised to consolidate the concepts of Islamic banking.
